Past Performances - Spring 2007

19 January 2007 - Lecture-Concert - J.S. Bach's Magnificat in Eb - BWV 243a with Helmuth Rilling, conductor and reknowned Bach scholar.  With other graduate choral conductors, I will conduct portions of the work as Maestro Rilling speaks.  Featuring the Yale Schola Cantorum, Simon Carrington, conductor; Yale Collegium Players, Robert Mealy, director; and soloists from the Yale Voxtet, Jimmy Taylor, director.

23 February 2007 - Premiere of Four Sacred Songs  (IV. Love -  John 13:34) with the Marquand Chapel Choir (Yale Divinity School - New Haven, CT) - Erin Westmaas and Daniel Koh, conductors - 10:30am.

7 March 2007 - The Soul's Passing, winner of the 2006 Raymond W. Brock Memorial Student Composition Competition, will be performed at the ACDA National Convention in Miami, FL with Dr. Kevin Fenton and the University Singers of Florida State University. 

There will be three performances scheduled on ACDA's three "tracks".  

  • Track 1 - Wednesday 7 March - 8am - Jackie Gleason Theater of the Performing Arts
  • Track 2 - Wednesday 7 March - 3:30pm - Knight Concert Hall at the Carnival Center for Performing Arts
  • Track 3 - Wednesday 7 March - 1pm - Jackie Gleason Theater of the Performing Artss
The composition will be a featured part of a larger program by Dr. Fenton's FSU University Singers, and the concert session will also include performances by the Indianapolis Children's Choir "Cantantes Angeli" conducted by Henry H. Leck, the Colt Chorale of Arlington (TX) High School conducted by Dinah Menger, and the Swingle Singers with Tom Bullard, musical director.

22 March 2007 - Remembering for Flugelhorn and Piano will be performed by Omar Williams, trumpet, and Josh Oxford piano on the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia American Composers Recital - Ithaca College - Ithaca, NY.  The piece was commissioned by Omar last Winter.

31 March 2007
- Cantate Domino, winner of the Cantate Chamber Singers Young Composers' Competition, will be performed by the Cantate Chamber Singers at St. John's Norwood Parish in Chevy Chase, MD - 8pm.

31 March, 1 April 2007 My new incidental music for the New Works New Haven production of The Crucible will be performed in Yale's Battell Chapel - New Haven, CT.  Nicholas Clarey, director; Robert Bolyard, conductor; Holland Jancaitis, organist.

1 April 2007  Premiere of my piece How solemn, as one by one..., winner of the Ithaca College Allen E. Ostrander Trombone Composition Prize, by the Ithaca College Trombone Troupe, Erik Kibelsbeck, conductor; Lloyd Dugger, singing narrator.  Performance at "Frühling Posaunen" hosted by Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA - 4pm.

2 April 2007 - How solemn, as one by one... performed by the Ithaca College Trombone Troupe as part of the Elmira College Concert Series, Elmira, NY. Erik Kibelsbeck, conductor; Lloyd Dugger, singing narrator - 8pm.

5 April 2007 - Performance of Four Sacred Songs  (IV. Love -  John 13:34) with the Battell Chapel Choir - The University Church at Yale (New Haven, CT) - Holland Jancaitis and Kevin Zakresky, musical directors with Dominick DiOrio, guest conductor - for the Maundy Thursday service - 8pm.

9 April 2007 - The Soul's Passing, winner of the 2006 Raymond W. Brock Memorial Student Composition Competition, will be performed by the University Singers of Florida State University with Dr. Kevin Fenton, conductor at FSU's Opperman Music Hall - Tallahassee, FL - 8pm. 

10 April 2007 - Performance of The Soul's Passing by the University Singers of Florida State University with Dr. Kevin Fenton, conductor at FSU's Opperman Music Hall - Tallahassee, FL - 8pm. 

11 April 2007 - Premiere of Four Sacred Songs  (II. Peace - John 14:27)  with the Memorial Church at Harvard, Harvard University Choral Fellows and Carson Cooman, director - Cambridge, MA.

21 April 2007 - Premiere of Transformation for Horn and Marimba.  Leah Jones Masters Degree Recital - Jessen Auditorium - University of Texas at Austin - 5pm.  Featuring Leah Jones and assisted by Jeff Otto, marimba and the City Limits Brass Quintet.  Also including works by Volker David Kirchner and Franz Schubert - Austin, TX.

6 May 2007 - Performance of Four Sacred Songs  (IV. Love -  John 13:34) with the Choir of St. Luke's Episcopal Church (Baton Rouge, LA) - Marisa Green, conductor.

6 May 2007 - The Finger Lakes Women's Chorale under the direction of Doreen Kelly Alsen will perform I Will Arise, written originally for and premiered by the Chorale of the Ithaca Children's Choir and artistic director Janet Galván last May.  Time 4pm - Location TBA (Finger Lakes Region, NY).

19 May 2007 - Performance of Say On, Sayers! with the Manchester Choral Society and Dr. Dan Perkins, conductor as the featured First Prize winning composition for the MCS' American Masterpieces Choral Composition Contest.  South Church - Portsmouth, NH - 8pm.

20 May 2007 - Performance of Say On, Sayers! with the Manchester Choral Society and Dr. Dan Perkins, conductor as the featured First Prize winning composition for the MCS' American Masterpieces Choral Composition Contest.  Grace Church - Manchester, NH - 4pm.

25-28 June 2007 - Two new publications with Roger Dean from the Janet Galván "Roots and Wings" Treble Choral Series (My Shadow and Dona Nobis Pacem) will be part of "Choral Music Experience" at Ithaca College featuring conductors Janet Galván and Jennifer Haywood and composer/conductor Francisco Núñez.  Singers from the Ithaca Children's Choir and Young People's Chorus of NYC will take part in the workshop for choral conductors, singers, and educators.

July and August 2007 - Five Performances of Four Sacred Songs (IV. Love - John 13:34) with the Apprentices of the Berkshire Choral Festival conducted by Dominick DiOrio.

11 April 2007 - Say On, Sayers!  has been named the first place winner of the American Masterpieces Choral Composition Contest sponsored by the Manchester Choral Society - Manchester, NH.  See above for performance information in May.

10 February 2007 - My new composition for two trombone choirs and singing narrator How solemn, as one by one... has won the Allen E. Ostrander Trombone Composition Prize given by the Ithaca College Trombone Troupe. The work will be featured at two concerts in April and published by Lyceum Press.

26 January 2007 - ACDA has placed an announcement of the Brock prize in the Choral Journal, including my headshot and bio.  

12 January 2007 - The Ithaca College Chapter of ACDA has been named the Outstanding Student Chapter by the ACDA Youth and Student Activities Committee and will be recognized at the National Convention in Miami, FL in March 2007.  As Treasurer for IC-ACDA from '05-'06, I am quite proud of their accomplishments! 

9 January 2007 - The Cantate Chamber Singers have posted a press release about the March performance of Cantate Domino in Maryland.  Viewable at their site, www.cantate.org.

28 September 2006 - The Soul's Passing for SATB a cappella has been named the winner of the 2006 Raymond W. Brock Memorial Student Composition Contest! As such, it will be performed at the ACDA National Convention in Miami, this coming March 7-10, 2007. The University Singers under the baton of Dr. Kevin Fenton of Florida State University will be performing the work!

27 September 2006 - My setting of Cantate Domino for SSAA has been named the prize-winner for the Cantate Chamber Singers Young Composer's Competition offered by the Cantate Chamber Singers of the Maryland/Washington D.C. area. A performance is scheduled for March 31, 2007 at St. John's Norwood Parish in Chevy Chase, MD.

23 September 2006 - My piece all which is not singing is mere talking for SSAA a cappella was selected as one of the pieces for the final round of "New York Sings! A Composers' Symposium" in Corning, NY on 4 November 2006. It was performed in a master class setting with Francisco Nunez and Glenn McClure, guest composers.
