Bringing a new composition into the world is an exciting process. The creation of new original music is a gift like no other: for performers, for listeners, and especially for the composer. I enjoy nothing greater than the chance to create new music that moves people and communicates something worth sharing with others.
For me, commissioning begins with a conversation, where I have the opportunity to learn about your specific hopes and dreams for the new work. This may include discussion of musical and thematic ideas, texts, your organization's structure and mission, how the work will be received by your performers and audience, and many other factors. I also like to -- whenever possible -- attend rehearsals or performances before I begin to write.
